First Friday Adoration Hour
Friday, July 2
Welcome! Please be seated, and please silence or turn off your cell phones.
Thank you for joining our Youth & Young Adult Ministry this First Friday to adore Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. You will find the program below, as well as the promises Our Lord gave St. Margaret Mary Alacoque for those who complete 9 consecutive First Fridays.
When the Blessed Sacrament is placed in the Monstrance, PLEASE KNEEL.
O salutaris Hostia, O saving Victim, open wide,
Quae caeli pandis ostium: The gate of heaven to us below!
Bella premunt hostilia, Our foes press on from every side;
Da robur, fer auxilium. Thine aid supply, thy strength bestow.
Uni trinoque Domino To Thy great name by endless praise,
Sit sempiterna gloria, Immortal Godhead, one in Three;
Qui vitam sine termino Oh, grant us endless length of days,
Nobis donet in patria. In our true native land with Thee.
Reader 1: Let us begin, as we do all things: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Let us pray together:
My Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that You are really here in this Sacrament. Night and day You remain here compassionate and loving. You call, You wait for, You welcome everyone who comes to visit You. I thank You, Jesus my Divine Redeemer for coming upon the earth for our sake and for instituting the Adorable Sacrament of the Holy
Eucharist in order to remain with us until the end of the world. I thank You for hiding beneath the Eucharistic species
Your infinite majesty and beauty, which Your Angels delight to behold, so that I might have courage to approach the throne of Your mercy.
I thank You dear Jesus, for having become the priceless Victim, to merit for me the fullness of heavenly favors.
Awaken in me such confidence in You that their fullness may descend ever more fruitfully upon my soul.
I thank You for offering Yourself in thanksgiving to God for all His benefits, spiritual and temporal which He has bestowed on me. Grant me grace and perseverance in your faithful service.
You are now invited to kneel or sit as you feel comfortable during this time of meditation and prayer.
Nothing But the Blood
1 What can wash away my sin? 3 Nothing can for sin atone:
Nothing but the blood of Jesus. nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again? Naught of good that I have done:
Nothing but the blood of Jesus. nothing but the blood of Jesus. [Refrain]
Refrain: 4 This is all my hope and peace:
O precious is the flow nothing but the blood of Jesus.
that makes me white as snow; This is all my righteousness:
no other fount I know; nothing but the blood of Jesus. [Refrain]
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
2 For my pardon this I see:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my cleansing this my plea:
nothing but the blood of Jesus. [Refrain]
Take this time to open your heart to Jesus. Share with him your joys and trials, ask him to hold you close to his Sacred Heart. Ask him to heal whatever in your life needs healing, ask him to open your heart even further to His will for your life. Ask the Blessed Mother to intercede for you, pray to your favorite saints. Surrendering ourselves to Jesus brings a fulfillment and happiness we cannot find anywhere else in our lives.
1. Be gracious [Repeat Verse 1]
My enemies are all surrounding
You are the One that keeps my feet from falling [Repeat Chorus]
2. When I'm afraid
I put my trust in You Bridge: I will give thanks to You, my Lord
Your word I praise For You have saved me for kingdom come
I will not fear what man can do I will perform my vows to You
That I may walk in the light of Your Son
Chorus: Oh, I will give thanks to You, my Lord
You are keeping count of all my tears For You have saved me for kingdom come
I am confident that You are for me Oh, I will perform my vows to You
Now until the end, You're what I praise That I may walk in the light of Your Son.
I am confident that You are for me
I won't be afraid
I won't be afraid
Prayer for Vocations
Reader #2: Let us pray together for vocations to the priesthood & religious life.
God of Life, You speak to us and nourish us through the life of our Church community. In the name of Jesus, we ask you to send your Spirit so that all men and women among us will respond to your call to service and leadership in our Church as priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. May those who open their hearts and minds to this call be encouraged and strengthened through Our enthusiasm and support. We make this prayer through Jesus your Son.
How Can I Keep from Singing?
1. My life flows on in endless song; 4. I lift my eyes, the cloud grows thin
Above earth's lamentation, I see the blue above it
I hear the sweet, though far-off hymn And day by day this pathway smooths,
That hails a new creation Since first I learned to love it,
2. Through all the tumult and the strife, 5. The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart
I hear that music ringing A fountain ever springing
It finds an echo in my soul For all things are mine since I am his
How can I keep from singing? How can I keep from singing?
3. What though my joys and comforts die? Refrain: No storm can shake my inmost calm
I know my Savior liveth While to that refuge clinging
What though the darkness gather round? Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth
Songs in the night he giveth How can I keep from singing?
Refrain: No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that refuge clinging
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth
How can I keep from singing?
Reader #3: Please stand. Together let us pray:
Our Father . . .
Hail Mary . . .
Glory Be . . .
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
You are welcome to show reverence to the Blessed Sacrament at the altar and Exit in Silence.
Thank you for spending this hour with Jesus in prayer!
12 Promises of First Friday Devotion
At the end of the 17th century Our Lord appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alocoque (1647-1690) and asked her to spread devotion to His Most Sacred Heart. In a letter written to her Mother Superior in May 1688, St. Margaret Mary set out what is called The Great Promise Our Lord made regarding the Nine First Fridays and what we must do to earn it.
She wrote: “On Friday during Holy Communion, He said these words to His unworthy slave, if I mistake not: ‘I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that Its all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on nine first Fridays of consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they will not die under My displeasure or without receiving their sacraments, My divine Heart making Itself their assured refuge at the last moment.'”
If you complete the 9 First Fridays, the promises which the Lord said he would bestow are listed below.
I will give them all of the graces necessary for their state of life.
I will establish peace in their homes.
I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
I will be their strength during life and above all during death.
I will bestow a large blessing upon all their undertakings.
Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and the infinite ocean of mercy.
Tepid souls shall grow fervent.
Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
I will bless every place where a picture of my heart shall be set up and honored.
I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.
I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful love will grant all to those who communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive months the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving their sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.
In order to meet the requirements for this devotion, you must complete the following EACH First Friday in addition to an hour of adoration for 9 consecutive months:
1. Go to Mass
2. Go to Confession
3. Receive Holy Communion
Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Have Mercy on Us.
